Ryan Hartegan

Founder & Lead Guide of Cirque Running | UESCA Certified Ultrarunning Coach

Ryan’s athletic and coaching journey started well before his career as a business owner in the outdoor space. From an early age, athletics were a large part of Ryan’s life, participating in multiple team sports, most notably competitive basketball. This athletic pastime was formative early on and has been the foundation of a lifelong pursuit of endurance activities in all forms of adventure.

Trail running is different for everyone and comes in all forms of enjoyment. For many, the simplicity of walking out your front door, or taking a short drive to the trailhead with nothing more than a pair of shoes, water, and maybe some fuel, is therapeutic and all that is needed. For others, trail running is directly connected to personal goals, whether that be races, or large objectives, like Rim to Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon. For many years, Ryan’s interests in trail running have been a blend of both personal and competitive pursuits, but his passion has always been rooted towards big days in the mountains.

Ryan has been trail running for well over a decade on trails all throughout California, in various types of terrain. Ryan brings his personal trail running experience to the table, as well as coaching background in organized sports such as basketball, surfing at a collegiate level, and has a deep understanding and knowledge of being an instructor, coach and guide, as he’s the owner of the reputable guide service, Golden State Guiding.

Ryan is a certified UESCA Ultrarunning Coach, Wilderness First Responder, and is professionally trained by the American Mountain Guides Association and American Institute of Avalanche Research and Education.
